Cooperation between IWWG and CRAES

The IWWG and the Chinese Research Academy of Environmental Sciences – CRAES have signed a Memorandum of Understanding during the International Conference on Solid Waste 2025 – Waste Management for Carbon Neutrality and Circular Economy (ICSWDG2025) in Dongguan, China.

As part of a formal ceremony, the IWWG and CRAES* signed a Memorandum of Understanding during the International Conference on Solid Waste 2025 – Waste Management for Carbon Neutrality and Circular Economy (ICSWDG2025) in Dongguan, China to strengthen Science and Technology (S&T) cooperation in the field of waste management.

The cooperation will include (not limited to) the following areas of science and technology:
a. Waste recycling and energy recovery;
b. Low-carbon waste management;
c. Circular economy;
d. Sustainable landfill;
e. Green production;
f. Solid waste utilization, disposal, and environmental management strategies under the concept of “Zero-waste city”;
g. Formulation and amendment of international solid waste standards and management policies

As examples of first common activities, both parties agreed on the joint organization of several workshops in connection with the upcoming International Symposium on Waste Management, Resource Recovery and Sustainable Landfilling – SARDINIA 2025 to be held in Santa Margherita di Pula, Italy from 13 – 17 October, 2025.

*CRAES was established in 1978, in affiliation with the Ministry of Ecology and Environment (MEE) of China and conducts a series of scientific and international cooperation activities which support the country’s overall environmental protection aims.
